Dec 08, 2009 · For the heck of it, I used Hornady's ballistic calculator to demonstrate what I posted above. I entered a muzzle velocity of 1750, bullet weight of 300, ballistic coefficient of .245 (Hornady's 300 grain FPB).
Mar 11, 2020 · I did a test with 300 grain Hornady FPB bullets, when I bought my gun. Went from 90 grains of blackhorn 209 up to 120 (5 grain increments by volume, but precisely weighed out), using winchester 209A primers. My groups really tightened up around 105 grains.

A bullet that flies better, meaning the boat tail Barnes Spitfires, have less velocity loss downrange. That means that a normal hunter, with 90 to 100 grains by volume of Triple Se7en or Blackhorn 209, can enjoy a flatter trajectory and higher terminal velocities while using no more propellant and experiencing no more recoil.

Nov 01, 2017 · The Blackhorn 209 was all but impossible to find in stock last fall, plus I didn’t feel experienced enough yet to measure and use loose powder, so I opted for White Hots pellets using the standard breech plug, along with the Powerbelt Platinums and Federal primers.

On the other hand, the heavier 300-grain bullet gets out of the muzzle almost 100 f.p.s. slower, but thanks to the added weight, with more energy.

Barnes' Spit-Fire T-EZ muzzleloader bullets load easier, even in tight bores. A new sabot reduces the ramrod pressure required to load and seat these .50-caliber, flat-base bullets. The Dead Center Duplex is a unique concept for muzzleloading. It consists of a specially designed sabot that fits inside of another specially made sabot that allows you to now accurately shoot a .357 caliber muzzleloader bullet from a .50 caliber rifle.

Mar 12, 2018 · If I were to hunt with it, I wouldn't mind using Blackhorn 209, a sabot and a good hollowpoint 45 caliber bullet, but the cost is too high for range plinking. It's a lot of fun shooting this gun at the range for a few hours at a time. I probably shoot about 6 shot in a 20 minute session compared to 50 rifle or 100-150 handgun shots in the same ...

I cut one band and groove from the mould leaving it to cast a 260 gr flat point bullet. This worked very well with 40 grains of black. It was a very good game killer and flatter in trajectory curve than the 300 grain slug with 35 grains of black" ( Sixguns by Keith page 129) "weak". I've been wanting to give it a try, but haven't yet. I've got about 3 pounds of 777, and at the price they want for the BlackHorn 209, I think I'll have to wait! I heard the same thing about the QLA.
